Overview
Esteban, mielőtt megnősülne, beáll egy aranybányába dolgozni. Amikor már elég pénzt gyűjt össze ahhoz, hogy egy kisebb birtokot vehessen magának, úgy dönt, feleségül veszi régi szerelmét, Rosát. Rosa azonban váratlanul meghal, Esteban ezért összeházasodik Rosa testvérével, a némasági fogadalmat tett Clarával. Lányuk születik, aki már jólétben, gazdagságban nő fel és beleszeret Pedróba, az ifjú forradalmárba. Esteban mindent elkövet, hogy megakadályozza Blanca és Pedro kapcsolatának elmélyülését, de amikor a lány teherbe esik, elkerülhetetlen a szakítás.
