Overzicht
Kansas, 1910. De weduwnaar boer Jacob Witting vindt het te moeilijk om alleen voor zijn boerderij en twee kinderen, Anna en Caleb, te zorgen. John plaatst een advertentie in een krant voor een postorderbruid, waarop de 'eenvoudige en lange' Sarah Wheaton antwoordt, die al snel van Maine naar Kansas reist om Johns vrouw te worden. Ondanks de liefde die groeit tussen Sarah en de familie, krijgt Sarah heimwee en moet ze uiteindelijk kiezen of ze wil blijven of niet.
