Overzicht
Zwarte gaten bevinden zich op de grens van wat we kunnen weten. Om die grens van kennis te verkennen, verbindt de Event Horizon Telescope observatoria over de hele wereld om een instrument ter grootte van de aarde te simuleren. Met deze tool streeft het team naar de allereerste foto van een zwart gat, resulterend in een beeld dat in april 2019 door miljarden mensen werd gezien. Ondertussen vallen Hawking en zijn team de zwart-gat-paradox aan die centraal staat in de theoretische natuurkunde: doe voorspellende wetten nog steeds functioneren, zelfs in deze enorme vervormingen van ruimte en tijd? Het samenweven ervan is een derde onderdeel, filosofisch en verkennend met behulp van expressieve animatie. ‘Edge’ gaat over het beoefenen van wetenschap op het hoogste niveau, een film waarin observatie, theorie en filosofie samenkomen om deze meest mysterieuze objecten te begrijpen.
