Becoming Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau staat over de hele wereld bekend als de Franse zee-avonturier met een rode muts aan boord van zijn schip Calypso. Zijn baanbrekende films en tv-series openden de ogen van de wereld voor het onderzeese rijk. Hij werd een toegewijde natuurbeschermer en richtte The Cousteau Society op om het zeeleven te behouden. We krijgen inzicht in sleutelfiguren rond Cousteau, waaronder zijn eerste vrouw Simone en hun zonen Jean-Michel en Philippe, wiens gezinsleven zich voornamelijk op zee afspeelde. We horen perspectieven op zijn carrière van collega duikers en filmmakers. Zijn beroemde vroege medewerker Louis Malle getuigt van Cousteau's talenten als regisseur die hem zowel de Palme d'Or als de Oscar opleverden voor zijn film uit 1956 The Silent World.
